to give you an idea of what or why, as mentioned before i'm using this to drive a 'random jukebox' display.
StringA is the number of the file (x out of 272), in the format XXX, so 008 for file #8.
it has to be a symbol instead of a float, if i want to add leading zeroes.
StringB is the song title, so there's the matter of combining multiple-words-with-spaces into a single symbol.
StringC is the Artist's name - same thing as StringB. everything is treated as symbols.
so now i can send all this as one message, and have the display read "008" for 2 seconds, then display artist and title together with a separating line in between etc., all from the background thread. much nicer than having Pd perform all that using [delay] and the like while playing the file.
