I have managed to boot it and install the new kernel, then I started looking at OpenGL. I had some vague memory I had already looked at this on the old image and had installed the TI stuff.
So I put in the "old" card and booted to see it that was the case and couldn't see anything, then I put in the new card and it wouldn't boot.
So at that point I flashed the card again and we are where we are now!

So it looks like you are correct, I thought the EMMC was wiped but there is something there, I will wipe it now...
