interesting points about the power, after workshop Id assumed you had to plug usb in after, so this was a useful thread.
ok, so I tested mine... this is Salt/salt+ in a Pittsburgh EP-360 case.
(startup patch, im using my own... and seems to start very quickly, both network and patch)
rack off - usb on , bela powers up and useable
turn rack on with usb , bela stays powered on
turn rack off (still usb on) , bela shutdown (*)
turn rack back on, bela powers on again
(*) I say shutdown, I guess Id need to check the logs, to see if its a shutdown , of brutally turns off...
i get a connection closed, if ssh'd in, so i think its a shutdown.
similarly, if i plug in after USB after rack is on, turning rack off, will shutdown bela.
so I think the behaviour is pretty much the same as @AndyCap
interestingly, and I think this is similar again
if I shutdown the salt (systemctl poweroff) , then if i unplug the usb and plug it in, this will power it up again.
so great ob on the design, Id say the Salt is acting exactly as you would expect it,
turns on and off with the Rack, but additionally can be powered/used with the rack via USB
as an aside, anyone using with wifi?
any quirks? mines basically working, but it looks like if its just wifi stick plugged (no usb cable) in at startup then then it doesn't connect - looks like a dhcp timeout.
I think this is similar to problems ive had before, where my dhcp server is slower than is expected, so I think probably i'll just switch it to a static ip...
(apart from that, its very cool to have it wifi connected)
also do you know if the ethernet cable will fit, or is it obstructed? im a bit lazy to check, as i have to take out some other modules to see.... but perhaps you already know 😉
