another post reminded me of this again π
any chance that the next build could switch Bela (mini/maxi/salt) all over to have the rootfs as read-only.
(and perhaps even option of patches too, in a lock down mode?)
the use a ramFS for writeable tmp files?
Organelle does this, which means even if you brutally power off , its very unlikely the SD card will get corrupted.
(or worst in BBB case the emmc)
its a small thing, but seems the safest option, especially for Salt, which you have to log on to it to power down.
something that could possibly make this task easier is using overlayfs, basically the rootfs is then read-only, and anything that tries to write rather than fails, writes to a ramfs - change are then of course lost on reboot.
this may be easier now bela is on a much newer dist/kernel.
(all options allow for temporarily changing the rootfs to rw, or copying data back to it for things like installation)
ps. I recognise if there has been a sync recently, your not likely to corrupt the FS (and its not happened to me - touch wood) but you never know, can be your unlucky day π
