Is there a new generation of Trill sensors in the pipeline? If so, what new features would they provide, and when should we expect them to be available? This might help me decide to go ahead with a new purchase or just hold on for the new sensors.
Trill sensors developments
Nothing in the pipeline
The Trill sensors have gotten a relatively recent refresh with the QWIIC connectors over GROVE and some improvements in the KiCad layout and documentation. They have proven robust and versatile, so there is no plan to change that.
That said, do you see room for improvements or have wishes or requests for a theoretical new product?
Ok great! No, I don't see room for improvements right now. In the past, I've used the old version of trill craft without the castellations. I'm now working on a new design which will use a custom PCB and the new castellated vias will make the project much cleaner and tidier. Thanks!
I actually have a project I'm working on where I am intending to use either Flex or Craft to create a 2 axis trackpad similar to the square and hex, only in a 40mm diameter circle.
I suppose this could count as a request for a theoretical new product, but I have no issues doing the work myself. A product would just make it more "off the shelf"... and easier to implement in the main project (would only need a 4 pin ribbon connector instead of 32).
you could achieve that by cutting down to shape a stock square or hex

Yeah the diy approach is totally fine and my intended route, though I'll be going all out on designing a pcb trackpad for my needs. Cutting a pad down to size/shape would reduce the number of sensors, while I'm wanting the "full" (I know that in a circle it would be rounded off) 15x15 grid for the best positional resolution possible.
