giuliomoro yup! forgot to mention that, it looks like some USB devices (especially bus-powered ones) will require a reboot. I think it is an issue with the power management of the USB controller on the BeagleBone Black.
giuliomoro or maybe just some laziness in the USB driver? But this happens also with the stock Angstrom distro, that's why I'd blame power management
sinewave giuliomoro giuliomoro Going through the update instructions, did you get to number 5? Yes, I did. giuliomoro Did you try to double click on the update_board.sh file in the scripts/ folder? Yes, I did, but the computer doesn't know which program is to be used with that file although I've installed cmdr. When I choose the application (cmdr) manually, I get this:
ngwese There appear to be issues with the USB hotplug support in/around the 3.8.x version of the Linux kernel (which the bela image runs). I was able to get things working if the bus powered USB midi device was plugged in before I powered up the the system: root@bela ~$ lsusb -t /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=musb-hdrc/1p, 480M /: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=musb-hdrc/1p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=audio, Driver=snd-usb-audio, 12M ...that snd-usb-audio is the class compliant USB midi keyboard. giuliomoro ngwese very useful. I googled for the issue when I first encountered it but did not come to any meaningful results. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will have to test this, but if it works it could be interesting to: - add button in the IDE for USB reset - add script for USB reset - add command-line option for the Bela script to perform USB reset when the program starts ( could be useful for headless operation ). Maybe combined with an added "restart program" functionality for the Bela button.
korhanerel Wow, glad to have started a discussion that will lead to Bela becoming even better. I will purchase the E-Mu MIDI interface anyway to use it with the Organelle. I'll try it with the Bela too and post the results here. Thanks!
giuliomoro thank you. I will rebuild the kernel next week and see if that behaves better with USB. Will send anyone interested a test image to help us testing it.
nuromantix I finally have a MIDI interface that is fully working. Ploytec chips work with Bela and fully support clock in/out as well as all the other MIDI messages.
ReverendGreen nuromantix Apologies if this is a noob question, but how do you hook up the Ploytec chip with the Bela and get them to communicate? I want to run a PD patch from the Bela that can Midi clock sync with other Midi/USB Midi devices (mainly with the Bela being the master clock, not so much the slave) And I'm wondering if this is the approach I need. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
nuromantix I got hold of one of these boards, but it's quite hard to find them: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp_usb_gm5.html then just use a USB cable!
nuromantix MIDISport is cheap and will handle MIDI clock output but it won't receive.... maybe you could use that?
