Ok, I've ordered a standard bela to start testing with.
A couple follow up questions.
giuliomoro The Bela cape has 8 DC-coupled analog outs at 5V, so maybe that could be an option for CV outs and then you can use transistors + resistors for the gates?
This is actually an interesting idea as it would require only a small amount of additional circuitry.
On this note, is it possible to "passively" sum the gates and CV outputs? As in, I will be connecting to a device that has 8cv inputs. If i do this approach and use the analog outs as 8x CV (0-5v) and then do the transistor circuit to get 8x 0-10v gates from the digital pins can I simply take those outputs and passively connect/sum them? (i.e. analog out connected to the 10v digital/gate out, and that being sent to the CV input of the subsequent synth)
somedev I solved a similar problem with this circuit (schematic attached.) +-15V supply is common in industrial control systems, and that is what powers the op amp. The non inverting input with the trim pot is adjusted so the output signal is offset to where ever you want it to be. The 47K is selected to provide the desired gain to the input signal. Remember that 0 ohms gives unity gain and infinity ohms gives near infinite gain. Also notice that this circuit outputs an inverted version of the input signal.
Thanks for this, as I've been eyeballing just a schematic to get from 0-5v -> 0-12v. With a circuit like this are you limited to 10v output, or can you adjust the resistors to get 12v output (if you have +/-15v rails)? Also you mention that the output of this circuit is inverted. Is it a matter of adding a separate opamp after this to flip it back to positive voltage or is it a matter of selecting an opamp that has a noninverted output (or an additional inverting input so it gets flipped back at the output or however that would work).
I did some googling on this and there are loads of options. I guess in general, is it better to just use some opamps + passive components vs bespoke dc-dc converters? (especially if you need 8x of something).
Lastly, in terms of powering stuff like this. Am I right in assuming that I could use an ok brick power supply (e.g. typical 15-20v output modular power brick) and then have some power regulating circuit to spit out the +/-15v (and I guess 5v for the bela as well)?
