sciss run on a fully-fledged traditional linux OS (or does it?),
it does. It's Debian (currently Stretch 9.12).
sciss there is no direct way of installation new software (or is there?).
there is. apt-get
, though you need to connect your board to the internet for that to work.
sciss Thus my question, would it be possible to install a JDK based system on a Bela,
apt-get install openjdk-8-jre-headless
or openjdk-8-jdk-headless
, I guess.
The catch, as you will have noticed by the package names, is that Bela is headless, i.e.: you cannot connect a screen to it. In principle doing a remote X11 session on it, but it will be painfully slow.
sciss . The real-time sound synthesis assumes that SuperCollider server is running on the machine.
that is easy!
sciss I have been using my system extensively on the Raspberry Pi, since it's really just a more or less standard Linux, but the Bela could be an interesting option in terms of audio optimisation.
if it can live with being headless, then the answer could well be that it's doable on Bela, too.
