PRU timeout with audio

So I just received the CTAG face cape and I've switched out the audio expander and replaced it with the CTAG and it improved the audio quality significantly which is great. However, one time while running the project I got hit with this:

PRU interrupt timeout, -1 110 Connection timed out
PRU interrupt timeout, -1 110 Connection timed out
audio frame 379712, errorCode: 1
PRU event loop timed out

The audio went silent for a short amount of time but then continued without issues. What causes this normally? The project is fairly intensive processing wise and I'm already internally upsampling from 24000hz to 48000hz.

Hmmm. First off, this has nothing to do with the CPU load. This is the TDM(McASP) communication bus between the PRU and the audio codec that is encountering problems. The code running on the CPU detects the error and restarts the PRU. It may mean there has been some sort of electric disturbance that affected the communication. This may have something to do with external devices being plugged to the board, and or devices being connected/disconnected while it's running, and/or a dodgy ground connection.

Note: if needed, the timeout could be made smaller, in order to reduce the amount of time the audio is off, but it's probably better to fix the issue at the root.
