Bela Mini not seeing the allow user "Josha Wise" access

I am trying to get a Bela Mini to work on my iMac Sonoma 14.7.5.
I was fooled at first about the flashing blue light, there is a big blue light that stays solid, but there is one under the board that flashes and then settles down and eventually pulses. Then the BELABOOT file system appears.

From the instructions you give I should be able to:-

Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy. There will be a message that says System software from developer "Joshua Wise" was blocked from loading. Click Allow to authorise the driver:

However, in my system this is called Privacy and Security and there is no way I can find to get to a page that will authorise "Joshua Wise" as a valid user.

So I am stuck.
Can anyone help with this please?

Edit I have also run the HoRNDIS 9.2 package

Thank you for that.
However, I find it odd that you shipped an old version of software with the Bela Mini as it was, as far as I know, only on sale in the last month or so.

Nevertheless, I removed SD card from the Bela Mini and put it into my Mac laptop Version 10.14.6. The Mac then gave me a message saying that the SD card was unreadable and did I want to format it or eject it, so I plumped for the eject option.

I am not sure what a "network interface" is. Is it the image of the SD card?

I have exactly the same prolem on Sonoma. I cannot install the driver so I cant access the board. Can anyone help?

You don't need and can't have driver on recent MacOS. Don't install HoRNDiS. If the board doesn't show up as a nework interface, it's probably because you have a very old image on it. Anything published after May 2020 should work without drivers. Get an SD card and flash it with v0.3.8h from here.

I think I solved that, there is a section on https://www.joshuawise.com about un-installing it says:-

"If, for some reason, you need to uninstall HoRNDIS, you can simply drag the extension to the trash. In the Finder, go to the “Go” menu, and select “Go to folder...”; in that, type “/System/Library/Extensions”. Find “HoRNDIS.kext”, and drag it to the trash. When prompted, type your password. Do the same for the “HoRNDIS.kext” that lives in “/Library/Extensions”, as well. Then, restart your Mac to be sure it is unloaded."

I did not find HoRNDIS.kex in the /System/Library/Extensions but I did find it in the /Library/Extensions. So I rebooted my iMac. I could also see a serial port called "/dev/cu.usbmodembela6" but there are no examples or mention of any libraries on my system.

My conclusion is that software from Joshua Wise is still being blocked, as per the initial request.

If you got the board recently, it should have v0.3.8h so it should work on Sonoma without any drivers. The existence of /dev/cu.usbmodembela shows that the board is alive, booted and has loaded the USB gadget driver. You should also have Volumes/BELABOOT and the below should confirm the image version:

cat /Volumes/BELA*/bela.version

If you installed Joshua Wise's HoRNDiS and/or were unable to activate it and/or remove it, that shouldn't affect the behaviour of the board. Still, to see if the extension is still present on your system, try running mdfind -name HoRNDIS.kext in the terminal and see if it shows the file somewhere.

Do you see a Bela device in your System Settings->Network ? What do its settings look like?

when i do the cat bela version I get

when I look at the networks folders I see this

I did and it found nothing, so I guess this is OK.

So all looks good I am beginning to see how this is working now, it is very different to what I was expecting.

In particular section 3 was the key to getting the whole thing going.

I did get to see the simple wave example and got the tone running on both my laptop and my iMac. Although the iMac was difficult to use as it didn't always respond to keys pressed like my Laptop did.

I saw the big + in the right hand column of the screen and from that I could see various examples. I am still not sure how this works for saving programs I have modified. For example I changed the simple tone to one that sweeps up in frequency to a set point and then repeats. But I think I am getting there.

Thanks this was the solution to my problems. I have "done" a few of the tutorials successfully now.
