Connecting two USB things to Bela Mini using USB hub

Hello!

I am connecting a midi controller and a drum machine (to get the MIDI sync) through USB cables using a USB hub to my Bela Mini. However, it only works whichever thing I connect in the first usb input of the usb hub.

I tried with both unpowered and powered usb hubs. In addition, I also tried connecting two midi controllers and the same happens, while both controllers have their leds on. Therefore, I deduce that it is not a matter of power.

I imagine I will have to somehow say to Bela to listen to both usb ports. Any idea about this?

What do you mean by "it works" ? How are you testing it?

To list connected devices run amidi -l in the console at the bottom of the IDE. With a powered hub, all USB connected devices should be listed, as long as they are class-compliant, alongside the hw:0,0,0 which is the virtual midi connection to the host computer.

By "it works" I mean that my patch receives midi info from it. I use just a simple patch like this and I check if, when I move a pot in each of the controllers (and the drum machine which also has pots that sends cc values), the pitch of the sound changes.

So when I connect two devices in the USB hub, only the one which is connected in the first (or the "more first") input of the hub sends midi to my patch.

I think the key could be in this. Since using the command "amidi -l" I can see that the midi device that doesn't work gets the "hw:0,0,0".

In Pd on Bela you need to set up the MIDI devices that you want to use besides the default one, as per the hello-midi example patch:

Hello.

With Giulio's help I solved the issue of getting 2 midi devices connected to the bela mini though a USB hub using the hw 0 0 0 — send bela_setMidi thing.

However, I only can connect the devices to the first two ports of the USB hub.

The first port is hw:1,0,0, and is by default opened. To open the second port I have to open hw:0,0,0 and it works.

Therefore I assumed that the third and and fourth inputs of the USB hub could be hw:2,0,0 and hw:3,0,0. However that doesn’t work.

Any idea about this?
