Upcoming Stable Image

Hello everyone!

I’m struggling to work with a few Pd Externals on the current stable release (v0.3.8) due to incompatibility with the installed libraries/software on the Bela Mini. For instance, CMake is outdated, and gcc/libc doesn’t support C++ 17 features. I can compile them on the unstable release (v0.6.0alpha), but I can’t share them with my students or colleagues.

Is there a stable release planned in the future? Is there something that we (the community) can do?

I love this project and can’t wait to keep developing for the Board.

Can you try if things work for you on v0.5.0? We've been using that unofficially for years.

It works! This update has indeed an updated toolchain. Installing SuperCollider is also pretty straight forward.

I am a little bit concerned about this point though:

running Pd will give you a stream of [Xenomai] bad syscall <0x197> in dmesg. This seems to be triggered by what's running within sys_doio(), but it's unclear what it is. This may be because the libc present here expects a different kernel from the one in use: bits/syscalls.h expects kernel 5.5. So if you want to use Pd here please refrain from using network/disk I/O and uncomment #define PD_THREADED_IO in core/default_libpd_render.cpp or accept a performance penalty due to the excessive logging.

I was indeed hoping to set up a network application in Pd. Is there any update on this matter?

p.s. #define PD_THREADED_IO is uncommented when installing this updated, but the bad syscall stream still appears in dmesg

Try updating the core code to dev. That comes with a new version of Pd that I haven't tested on this image yet. See how that behaves.

It doesn't even boot...I tested it with 2 Bela Mini

oh that's weird, it did work for me. Are you confident you flashed it correctly? Does the BELABOOT drive show up if you place the SD card in your SD card reader?

Well it did work when I flashed it directly from my computer before uploading the image. But it looks like uploading the image broke something, maybe it's missing part of the disk image ... I'll need to rebuild it

yes...I am using BalenaEtcher (which I also used to flash v0.5.0) I could try with dd directly...
