Hi, I would like to use CTAG Beast for a multichannel installation and would need 8 balanced outputs. Is it possible to get this from Bela and use TRS jacks 3.5 to 6.3? Thanks for any recommendations.
Balanced Output?
The TRS inputs and outputs of the Bela audio adapter cables are stereo unbalanced signals and balanced signals are not available not even on the raw pins at the back of the CTAG. If you need a balanced signal you'll need to provide your own external circuit. Do you know for a fact that you need balanced signals? In may applications you may be fine with the unbalanced line-level outputs you are getting.
Hi giuliomoro, thanks for your reply. The idea is basically to have Bela as a standalone player for multichannel speaker setup which has to reach up to 20 meters long distance. Also, the installation will be inside of the gallery where lights will be plugged in there as well. So I thought the option with a balanced signal is more secure than the unbalanced one. Any idea how to deal with this, please?
Yeah 20m + lights does sound like it could be advantageous to have balanced signals ... You could try a little passive breakout with resistors for impedance balancing.

any recommendations on how to implement it? I'm not really an electrician so any basic explanation and tips would help. Thanks a lot.

This is the output stage of the CTAG : it has 300 ohm resistor and 47 microfarad capacitor in series.
Impedance balancing can be obtained by using that as the balanced+(hot) signal and adding an equivalent impedance to ground to the balanced-(cold) signal. This requires three passive components per channel (in addition to the connector). In the diagram below "CTAG OUT" is the existing ctag output pin. The components in the box are those that need to be added
cool, thanks!
