  • BB + Bela + 2 capes too tall for enclosure!

Hello all,

I'm trying to convert a project of mine to use Bela.

To give me the IO I need, I'm using the Beaglebone Black + Bela cape + Multiplexer capelet + CTAG FACE.

The only problem is, with all 4 boards stacked together, it's too tall to fit in the pre-existing enclosure of my project!

Can I use a cable instead of direct connections between capes? I'm not sure a suitable cable exists, nor whether it would be advisable to introduce a cable run here.

Many thanks,
Harry

I should add that the obvious answer "use a taller enclosure" isn't really practical (but I will if I have to!)

How much shorter should it be? You can probably shave off 2 to 3 mm per cape by trimming the header pins.

giuliomoro thanks for the suggestion! I decided it would be easiest to buy a new enclosure - even though that will create a lot of work, when it's done, it's done, whereas an extra 2 cables could bring all sorts of nightmares.

for completeness: the only cape you could reasonably remove and connect via wires is the multiplexer capelet. That would require 16 wires. However, I think you may start experiencing a slight cross talk between neighbouring multiplexed channels, as the multiplexer's output's slew rate is slowed down by the stray inductance of the wires, however I am not sure whether the effect would be significant.
