  • How can I convince myself my Bela Pepper build is safe to put into my main case?

My Peppper is barely getting touched because I've convinced myself I can't put it in my main case!

Could there be a risk from any soldered shorts bleeding back into the bus board that might affect other modules or somesuch?

It seems to be working OK* powered by an FC Power board I built, but some of those contacts on the Pepper look really close! I haven't tested all the CV I/O and don't have an oscilloscope suitably working. (*I forget which but I had one of the example projects running and the knobs worked fine.)

Would be grateful if someone could put my mind at ease that I'm unlikely to cause any damage! I've soldered a few modules and power boards but the Pepper has so much solder going on with a few really close contacts.

    Which ones?

It is really unlikely that any malfunctioning on Pepper would damage other modules. My main concern when putting it in a case is to make sure that the case is deep enough that the back of Pepper (i.e.: the bottom of the BeagleBone) doesn't come close to touching the back panel, where you often have a power supply strip. Similarly, pay attention when putting in an out: do it with the case switched off so that you don't have to worry about touching neighbouring modules with the exposed pins.

    Thank you for your reply.

I've taken a few photos uploaded to Google here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/wj8bmRLERr8kXzSM6 - hopefully they're accessible. I've pointed to the joints of concern.

I measured Bela before I built the cases - just never had the courage to put it in :'D And thank you - I make sure the case is off before adding/removing modules.

that all looks well. Many of those joints are actually joined by a trace on the PCB.
