Alt Display for Pepper

Very excited my Pepper arrives today!
I am interested in substituting a small display in place of the LED strip,

Has anybody done this? I am a bit of a noob.

I need to display 16 characters. Is there such a display that would fit in the same space?
Or maybe I put it on top of the unit.

I have a bunch of algos in Arduino and maxforlive that I will port to this unit.
C++, is has been a while, don't suppose python is an option?

Perhaps the best option is to use an OLED display. Maybe you'll find a variant that almost fits in the same space, but you'll probably need some way of gluing it to the front of the faceplate... I'm going to mount my OLED i2c display on a sidecar. Seems less messy.
