Hey everyone!
I am trying to control a motor using the Bela and was going through this example https://blog.bela.io/controlling-dc-motors/#circuit-diagrams
Now in the page it recommends using a TIP31 AG but at the moment I only have my hands on a TIP31C. I am not good with transistors but was wondering if it should be okay?
It seems like the 31C can handle 100V instead of 60V but apart from that I don't see much of a difference! I suppose better to double check.
This is the general rundown of the details I found about the 2 transistors.
TIP31C
Medium power TRANSISTOR
With hfe gain up to 50
With hfe improved linearity
Maximum voltage across COLLECTOR and EMITTER of TRANSISTOR: 100V
Maximum current allowed trough TRANSISTOR COLLECTOR: 3A DC
Maximum voltage across BASE and EMITTER of TRANSISTOR:5 V
Maximum current allowed trough TRANSISTOR BASE: 1A DC
Maximum voltage across COLLECTOR and BASE of TRANSISTOR: 100V
Maximum operating Temperature: 150ºC
TIP31AG
Transistor Type NPN
Current - Collector (Ic) (Max): 3 A
Voltage - Collector Emitter Breakdown (Max): 60 V
Vce Saturation (Max) @ Ib, Ic: 1.2V @ 375mA, 3A
Current - Collector Cutoff (Max): 300µA
DC Current Gain (hFE) (Min) @ Ic, Vce: 10 @ 3A, 4V
Power - Max: 2 W
Frequency - Transition: 3MHz
Operating Temperature: -65°C ~ 150°C (TJ)
Any advice is appreciated!
