project config details: audio expander caplet

I'm trying to get an understanding for the project configuration.

What purpose is there to setting the audio expander caplet as active? Does it change the input and output to be centered at 0? Does this interact at all with the analog channels setting?

It does change the input and output to be centered at 0. This does not interact with the "analog channels" setting: the latter sets the number of channels in use and their sampling frequency.
Audio capelets settings for unused channels are ignored.
