  • Smallest Microphone and Speakers

Hi! I´m writing to ask about the smallest recommended microphone and speakers compatible with Bela?

I´m looking to fit my Bela mini, Lipo Battery, SparkFun Lipo Charger/Booster 5V/1A, microphone, and speakers into an 11.5cm diameter sphere for a uni project.

All small audio hardware suggestions accepted! Thank you for your time!

Intriguing project, looking forward to hearing more!

For the microphone I would recommend an electret mic capsule which can be connected to the audio input. These can be really tiny: https://cpc.farnell.com/c/audio-visual/professional-sound-lighting/microphones/electret-microphones

To connect it you also need a resistor in series with the power line. You can find the wiring diagram here (ignore all the other sensors): https://learn.bela.io/tutorials/pure-data/audio/recording-samples/

For the speaker I'm less informed. Depending on your application could a piezo buzzer do the job? These can give quite lo res and medium volume sound. Otherwise any small speaker should do the trick but bear in mind that you will need an amplifier to drive it, unless you use a powered one. At hackathons we would often have a supply of these small amplifiers from adafruit which work a treat with Bela Mini: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1552
