  • RE: JEM and Jython on BelaCapes for the BeagleBone Black?

Hello,

I have been reading a book recently. It covers some java and python basics, some real in depth terminology that I am sure you all know and are aware of, and it has simple interface to play midi controlled "vibes."

Although this sounds nice, do you think it could work for the BBB and BelaCape?

Here is the book, in case you have already read it or was thinking of delving deeper in to the world of music (to anyone really), JythonMusic.

Anyway, it seems that it only works w/ Java 8 and Jedit does not like it in my book. I am sure others have gotten it to work but I am new and just reading it. I am new to the world of music, books, and musical books.

So, I figured I would reach out to see if anyone had read this book and/or had done some programming w/ the BBB and BelaCape that is similar.

Seth

P.S. W/ midi control on the book exercises, one can play that goofy 80's tune from, "Beverly Hills Cop!" Anyway, I will keep w/ the lessons online at Youtube and read more about musical etiquette during my stay w/ BelaCape and the BBB!

Sorry. The book is called, "Making Music with Computers."

There is no straightforward way to run java or python audio code on Bela. The general principles and DSP algorithms described in the book would most likely apply cross-language to anything you could develop on Bela. You could also check out our C++ course

    Yes Sir...

I am lacking basic understandings in the musical field, i.e. thus the book. I am also catching up on #7 on the C++ videos on YouTube.com from BelaCape hardware and the BBB.

    ...

I know neither the book and Bela are related except for having music in mind. So, I will keep watching the videos and learning.

P.S. Since I cannot use Bela as of now for Java or Python audio code, I will just try to keep my ideas to a minimal when giving out resources on different subjects. Oops! So, as I catch up on reading, I will keep trying to watch and take notes during the lectures on YouTube.com for the C++ library for Bela.
