Hall effect (magnetic encoders) with SPI/I2C output

These chips have i2c/SPI output and 14bit resolution, much better than the generic mechanical encoders. There are variants of these chips too. I can imagine laying out a bunch of them on a circuit board and then have a bunch of shafts above them with magnets glued on for a lot of encoders with minimal wiring. Trick is the simple mechanics for all the shafts, I would do my own bearing system instead of the hacked encoder in the video above.

I haven't tried them but it'll be interesting to see what comes out of that! Are you planning to use them for encoders?

Keep in mind that there are also options for endless pot (if you don't need too many ).
Something like this will use a single analog input and have a discontinuity, which will result in a ~ 20º dead angle.
There are also some endless pots with 2 outputs (sinus/cosinus) which will cost you two analog inputs but can give you a full 360º rotation.

giuliomoro Yes thinking of using this for encoders as a control surface for synths etc with high resolution and high density. I like that the magnetic ones are non-contact to give a smooth feel. The through hole pots that you linked are another way to do this (I got a couple of those as alternate solutions 😉) never seen a two output one, that's cool, thanks.
