I have recently been trying to implement and run ODAS (Open embeddeD Audition System) on Bela. Its an open source platform that is used to perform sound source localisation, tracking, separation and post-filtering. It is also optimised to run easily on low-cost embedded hardware. Here is an example config file for another type of embedded sound hardware and the file I’ve created for use with Bela: https://we.tl/t-6MYwYs4GAf. However the top section of the config file requires a number for the soundcard but with Bela I can’t access this. Generally I get the following when trying to access this info:

root@bela:/# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [fmidi ]: MIDI Gadget - f_midi
MIDI Gadget

So it seems that it potentially requires the use of ALSA in order to obtain this info (by running arecord -l in terminal). After this could then be used in the config file to load when running the program.

Although I’ve read that Bela does not have great compatibility with ALSA but does have drivers. I’m aware that ALSA can be started by adding the BB-BONE-AUDI-02 overlay. Although would I still be able to use Bela's IDE and run Bela programs?

There is the option to access the sound card by name such as:

    # Input with raw signal from microphones
    interface: {
        type = "soundcard_name";
	devicename = "bela";
    }

However this is where it doesn’t recognise the device name and then gives the following error:

ALSA lib pcm.c:2495:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM bela
Source hops: Cannot open audio device bela: No such file or directory

Certain parts of the program do seem to run but it stops once it encounters this problem. So it seems it would be easier to access it through using the number approach such as:

    # Input with raw signal from microphones
    interface: {
        type = "soundcard";
        card = 1;
        device = 0;
    }

Any suggestions or thoughts?
